Although I lovingly indulge in the benefits of being older. I still dearly miss being young.
So now, when thinking of time travel and space exploration, I am reminded of the days of ignorance. Sorely missing it all…
With that, I present, a poetic attempt.
I miss waking up at 7am on Saturdays to watch KTV.
As well as playing rugby.. on the 11th tee.
I miss licking the bowl from my mothers baking,
And I especially miss my mother looking after me when my stomach was aching.
I miss playing gladiators near the sanddunes,
As well as sucking the helium out of Spur balloons.
I miss searching, finding and selling golf balls,
And I sincerely miss hating my vegetables.
I miss….
Fighting with girls, throwing balls, bundu bashing and map creation.
Fire starting, tree-house making, downhill skating, daily forms of devastation.
Space Quest, Police Quest, Monkey Island, Leisure Suit Larry.
Red-Alert, Worms, Duke Nukem and Quest for glory.
Shooting pool, playing arcades
Riding bikes, trying out friends new roller blades.
I miss fighting with my brother on weekday afternoons,
While trying to watch all my favourite cartoons.
I miss all those days when I thought I knew Kung Fu,
But most importantly, I miss never not having anything to do.
When hide and go seek would go on for hours,
When we all thought we had superpowers..
When ones biggest brother, was a hero to us all.
As he saved mankind daily, shoving bullies to the floor.
When the safest place in the world was under my bed,
No one would come close or near it, or I’d have their head.
I miss..
Dial-up access, co-ax networks, repetitive electro music,
Norton Commander, turbo buttons, Nibbles and Gorilla that were hidden in QBasic
Trouble free, environmentally secure, high hopes, precious dreams.
Walking the streets, tubs of ice-cream, Friday night take-outs and sporting extremes.
Playing with Lego, shopping with mother.
Eating tons of candy.. one after the other.
Implementing ideas and building bases,
Oh how I miss all those evenings spent competing in athletic races.
I miss responsibility free.
As well Wednesday night desert
I miss not feeling guilty
And always getting hurt.
So when times are rough, I think of being young
Because back then, almost everything was fun.

Every so-often I feel exactly the way you described in this poem. It also made me think of this line from The History Boys, one of the best movies I have ever seen.
“The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – that you’d thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you’ve never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it’s as if a hand has come out, and taken yours. “

Ye i agree. Relating to someone elses writing has a strong effect on human emotion.
Similar reactions can be felt when listening to a song/melody. Lyrics that speak for the mind..
